Maria Estela Sanchez, a loving wife, mother, sister, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 9th, 2026, surrounded by the love and support of her family. She was 74 years young.
Estela was born on May 2nd, 1951, in Brownsville, Texas, to Francisco and Ignacia Olvera. She lived her entire life in Brownsville, Texas, while attending high school at Brownsville High in her early years. She later married the love of her life, Pedro Sanchez, on September 1st, 1978. They made their life in Harlingen, Texas, and remained married for forty-seven years.
Every morning, she had a routine where she would go to her altar in her bedroom and pray, thanking God for another beautiful day of life and praying for all her loved ones. She would step out of her bedroom and make breakfast for her family, and then proceed to watch her favorite shows such as "Gunsmoke," "Rifleman," "Days of Our Lives," and many others. Sundays were for her favorite football team, The Dallas Cowboys. She had a passion for vibrant colors, whether it be her wearing vibrant colored clothing or decorating every corner of her home with vibrant colors every chance she had. She was a lover of the Christmas holidays and would turn her home into Christmas in Wonderland with all her decorations. She was spoiled by her two children who would buy her anything her heart desires because as she would say to them, "I'm worth it." And that she was.
She will be remembered for her beautiful smile which could light up any room she was in. Her love for God, her compassion and kindness for her family and friends, and her desire to be a good housewife and mother to her family was something that exceeded expectations. She never knew the word "quit" as she always persevered in all that she did. She will always be remembered for the strong Olvera woman that she was, a real-life angel that was given by God.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Francisco and Ignacia Olvera; her brothers, Alvino Olvera, Alberto Olvera, and Refugio Olvera; and her sister, Raquel Olvera.
She leaves a lifetime of stories, cherished memories and wisdom to her husband, Pedro Sanchez; her children, Mary Kimberly Sanchez and Pete Jeffery Sanchez; her siblings, Benita Torres (Santiago), Arnulfo Olvera (Nicolasa), Celia Vera (Juan), Francisco Olvera Jr. (Maria Elena) from Brownsville, Texas, Nazaria Cortinas (Manuel) of Pasadena Texas, and Anita Puente (Jesus) of La Feria, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
